Monday 11th June

Neatholme Scrape - Single male LONG-TAILED DUCK (IC,TT,KW et al) was noted here from 9.45am and was still present mid afternoon at least. The two images (see below) seem to show that the bird may probably be a 1st-summer as it lacks both an obvious 'long tail' and the long 'ginger edged' and 'black centred' scapulars usually found on adult males in early/mid summer. The bill 'band' is also a very dark pink and the eye mask is not as defined as an adult would show. Also a single Arctic Tern was noted for just 5 mins early morning and 2 Red-crested Pochard.
