Recent Bird Sightings

For local information and guidance on submitting your bird and wildlife sightings please look at the page found here.

Happy New Year to everyone who uses this website and hope you all have a fantastic 2015.

The final tally of bird species claimed over the recording area in 2014 is 177 (still subject to change). There were some very obvious omissions including Bewick's Swan, Ruddy Duck, Curlew Sandpiper, Wood Sandpiper, Kittiwake, Lesser Spotted Wooodpecker, Rock Pipit, Nightingale (non were confirmed by local birders) and Corn Bunting. If you have records of any of these species for the Idle Valley NR and its surround areas in 2014 please submit them to us now. Local birders consider 2014 to be a generally poor year but we did have some very significant sightings. A potential first record of Glossy Ibis from early October (if accepted by NBW), the first confirmed record of Cetti's Warbler in November despite two previously un-submitted claims, a second record of Blue-winged Teal in July (if accepted by BBRC) and the second Grey Phalarope in October, the last published record was in 1983.
