Sunday 31st March  - Don't forget! - IVNR CRAFT FAIR - Sunday 31st March & Monday 1st April

A new addition to the year list (126) was the Rose-ringed Parakeet which flew over Bellmoor Lake. Spring has arrived today with three Little Ringed Plovers (127), 1 singing Blackcap and several singing Chiffchaff over the site. Single COMMON REDPOLL at Hallcroft Sewage Works.

Neatholme Pit - The immature/female LONG-TAILED DUCK (DC,SC,DP,IH,PCa,PCo) was still present today plus 1 Little Egret. Neatholme Fen - Two Oystercatcher. Neatholme Scrape -c70 Goldeneye, 1 female Pintail, 4 Shoveler. Sandy Hills/Poplar Walk - Single Blackcap singing this morning. Clayworth Common - Three Stock Dove. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Single Chiffchaff singing in Willow at southern end. Also here, up to 3 Little Ringed Plover present, 1 Curlew flew over, 4 Shelduck, 1 Skylark. Chainbridge Pit - Four Goldeneye. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Single Ruff late morning plus 2 Buzzard over here this evening. Walters Lane Pit - Single Ruff, 1 Redshank, 1 Green Sandpiper and 4 Shelduck. Sheep Fields (Low Level) - The 58 Pink-footed Geese were still present today and were still present this evening. Tiln Fishery - Six Teal and 3 Oystercatcher. Bunker Wood - Three Woodcock here this morning, also 2 Chiffchaff, 1 Goldcrest, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kestrel, 2 Song Thrush, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Goldcrest and 1 Treecreeper. Bellmoor Lake - Single Rose-ringed Parakeet (AS) flew south calling constantly at 10.44am. Also here, 1 Chiffchaff singing, 4 Goldcrest singing, 2 Lesser Redpoll, 2 Buzzard, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Siskin, 3 Oystercatcher, 14 Teal, 78 Tufted Duck, 7 Moorhen, 2 Red-crested Pochard, 2 (pair) Goosander, c500 Black-headed Gull, 8 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 1 Reed Bunting, 1 Shelduck, 2 Shoveler. Hallcroft Sewage Works - Single COMMON REDPOLL (MF) with 1 Lesser Redpoll feeding here within a tit flock at 14:50pm. Saturday 30th March -LBC Bird Walk around Bellmoor Lake

A new addition to the year list (125) was a female Stonechat at Tiln North (Restoration Area).

Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Single female Stonechat noted at southern end of scrape from 9.15am until at least 11.00am. Also here single Peregrine hunting then landing on deck for 15 minutes before flying south, 170 Black-headed Gull, 27 Common Gull, 2 Lesser Black-backed Gull, c160 Wigeon, 3 Pintail and 1 Curlew.

Chainbridge Pit - A total of 26 Goosander, 85 Common Gull, 36 Black-headed Gull and 1 Herring Gull. Sheep Fields (Low Level) - A total of 58 Pink-footed Geese present, 375 Common Gull, 178 Black-headed Gull, 10 Great Black-backed Gull, 9 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 7 Herring Gull, 45 Greylag geese, 15 Canada Geese, 3 (feral) Pink-footed Geese and 3 Oystercatcher. Friday 29th March

Yesterday's adult winter Little Gull remained today being noted in several locations plus a immature male Marsh Harrier, the 'long-staying' Long tailed Duck and 1 Ruff still.

Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Single adult winter Little Gull was still present in northern edge from 8:20am but flew off towards Chainbridge NR Scrape at 9:00am. Also here, c60+ Wigeon, 2 Oystercatcher, 2 Kestrel, 4+ Grey Partridge, several singing Skylark and c30 Black-headed Gulls. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Single adult winter Little Gull feeding over southern half at 9:30am then flew back towards the Conservation Lake. Also here, c20 Linnet, c150 Wigeon, 2 Curlews early afternoon, 2 Ringed Plover, 1 Dunlin on flood south of main lake. Chainbridge Pit - Single Goosander, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 male Reed Bunting in song, 2 Great Crested Grebe, c5 Goldeneye and 2 Barn Owls late evening. Chainbridge Wood NR - Two Goldcrests fly-catching over edge of lane and 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Four Cormorant, 5 Shelduck, 4 Oystercatcher, c50 Wigeon, c30 Teal, c 30 Shoveler, 10 Goldeneye and 1 Kestrel. Chainbridge NR Scrape (West) - Single Fieldfare and Redwing noted. Cross Lane Marsh - Single Marsh Harrier (presumed same as Neatholme Pit) was noted here today. Neatholme Scrape - Up to 23 Goldeneye, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 6+ Shelduck, c20 Teal and 3 Cormorant. Neatholme Pit - The immature/female LONG-TAILED DUCK (PJF) was still present this morning and a confirmed '2nd-summer' male Marsh Harrier was photographed over here at 13:25pm plus 1 Green Sandpiper, 2 Little Grebe, 2 Great Crested Grebe and c10 Goldeneye.

Neatholme Fen - c75 Wigeon, c50 Teal, c20 Shoveler, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Oystercatcher and many large gulls including c30 Great Black-backed Gulls, c10 Herring Gull and c20 Lesser Black-backed Gulls. Windsurf Pool - Two Red-crested Pochard, 2 Great Crested Grebe and 2 Meadow Pipit on nearby field. Walters Lane Pit - Single Ruff noted here all day, 2 Redshank, 3 Oystercatcher and 2 Shelduck. Sheep Fields (Low Level) - Two Oystercatcher, 4 Pink-footed Geese, c10 Teal and 10 Common Gulls. Tiln Fishery - Single adult winter Little Gull noted here from 11:00 until 11:20am at least. Also here, 150 Wigeon, 6 Teal, 1 Cormorant, 170 Black-headed Gull, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Stock Dove, 1 Shelduck, 2 Buzzard, 2 Kestrel, 2 Great Black-backed Gull and 2 Pied Wagtail. Bellmoor Lake - Up to 10 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 6 Great Black-backed Gulls, c400 Black-headed Gull, 7 Oystercatcher, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Green Woodpecker, 4 Teal, 4 Goosander, 6 Pochard and 5+ Redwing noted near Rural Learning Centre building. Bellmoor Ponds - Two Goldcrest, 2 Treecreeper and 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker. A minimum of 10 Common Buzzard over the whole site with frequent display noted by several birds. Thursday 28th March

A new addition to the year list (124) was the adult winter Little Gull found on the Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake)

Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Single adult winter Little Gull was noted here from 9:20am until it flew to Tiln North (Restoration Area) at 14:20pm, also here 1 Oystercatcher. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Single adult winter Little Gull noted here at 14:20pm also here 3 Goldeneye and 3 Pintail (inc 2 males). Cross Lane Marsh - Single Little Egret noted late morning. Neatholme Scrape - A total of 27 Goldeneye present. Neatholme Pit - The imm/female LONG-TAILED DUCK was still present today. Neatholme Fen - A pair of Goosander and 1 Oystercatcher. Friday 22nd March

Lound Village - Up to 6 Lesser Redpoll, 2 Siskin and a male Brambling coming to feeders in Mike Vickers Garden. (M.Vickers)


Thursday 21st March

Hawthorn Lane/IVNR - Four COMMON CRANES (PP,DE et al), 2 adults and 2 immatures, were first identified circling over here at 13:45pm heading slowly northwards, before turning towards Clayworth Common and the River Idle  then returning west towards the Blaco area and loosing height until they were lost from view. The four birds were soon re-located having pitched down in a ploughed field near Mattersey Priory and were still present at 15:30pm at least. Interestingly there were two reports of 2 and 3 Common Cranes heading south over Gringley Carr this morning.  Blaco/Mattersey Priory - Four COMMON CRANES (DM,DHo,ASh,PCa,IH,DRo et al) were still present at 15:30pm at least and photographed feeding in field just north of top lake. www.birdguides.com reporting them as still present at 17:00pm today. Also, single Buzzard perched in a tree.

Neatholme Scrape - An incredible 126 Goldeneye (TT, KW), 32 Shelduck, 2 Oystercatcher and 20 Red-crested Pochard, single Grey Plover flew East over Neatholme Scrape around 10:30. Bellmoor Lake - 11 Goosander, 6 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 1 Teal, 40+ Fieldfare, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker and c475 Black-headed Gulls. River Idle (Bellmoor) - c40 Siskin. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Up to 7 Pintail still present, 2 Oystercatcher and 2 Ringed Plover. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - A group of 7 Pintail (inc 4 males) noted here at 10:15am and again at 14:30pm, 2 Ringed Plover, 4 Oystercatcher and 1 Curlew feeding at 16:00pm. Clayworth Common - Single juvenile Marsh Harrier which flushed 200 Lapwings plus, 1 Grey Partridge up to 5 Buzzard. Chainbridge Pit - Single Redshank, 16 Goosander, 2 Red-crested Pochard and up to 4 Buzzard over. Cross Lane Marsh - Single Little Grebe. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Morning, 4 Ringed Plover, 2 Oystercatchers, 6 Pintail including 4 male, 1 Peregrine Falcon, 2 Buzzard. Afternoon 250 Fieldfare over east, single Curlew late afternoon. Clayworth Common - 6 Whooper Swans and 20+ Golden Plover. Neatholme Pit -single Little Grebe on Pit, single Short-eared Owl, perched on fence post on Northern edge. Neatholme Scrape - 11 Goldeneye including 8 female, single Short-eared Owl, perched on fence post on Eastern shoreline. 7 Red-crested Pochard roosting on island icluded 4 males. Willows (S), single Short-eared Owl, harassed by Corvids flew West over Neatholme Scrape. Bellmoor Lake - Single Kittiwake reported by a visitor but no further details. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Two Ringed Plover and 1 Curlew, 1 Short-eared Owl noted today. Neatholme Fen - Single 'first-winter' GLAUCOUS GULL (BM) was present again here between 17:50-18:05pm this evening plus single Little Egret flew over Fen and 2 Oystercatcher feeding. Blaco Farm & Cottages - Single Barn Owl hunting. Blaco Fields(N) - Two Oystercatcher and a single Snipe observed. Neatholme Pit - Single immature/female LONG-TAILED DUCK (TT,VG,KW) still present. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - single Goosander.  Bellmoor Lake - Single Goosander and 6 Oystercatcher on main island, two Treecreeper in Wood to West, single Goldcrest, Northern end of Lake. Chainbridge Pit - Single Goosander. Sandy Hills - Two Sparrowhawks displaying, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker and 1 Song Thrush singing. Sheep Fields (Low Level) - Four Oystercatcher. Cross Lane - Four Green Woodpecker at western end plus 2 Buzzard over. Walters Lane Pit - c400 Golden Plover, c300 Lapwing, 2 Oystercatcher, 7 Shelduck and 14 Teal. Clayworth Common - Up to 20 Whooper Swans still plus single Kestrel. Chainbridge Wood NR - Single Great Spotted Woodpecker. Neatholme Fen - Single probable juvenile ICELAND GULL (DHo) present here from 17:50pm until dusk this evening but poor light restricting viewing. Bellmoor Lake - Single Snipe, 4 (2 pair) Goosander, 1 Oystercatcher, 1 Coal Tit, 1 Treecreeper, 50+ Siskin, 20+ Redwing. Bellmoor Sand Pits - Single female Merlin harrased by Jays at 10:45am and 1 Buzzard. Bellmoor Ponds - 2 Goldcrest in Pines, 1 Goosander and 1 Fieldfare. Bunker Wood - Single Buzzard. Chainbridge NR Scrape (West) - 2 Oystercatcher. Chainbridge Wood NR - Single Goldcrest and Great Spotted Woodpecker. Chainbridge Lane (Charcon Works) - Single Green Sandpiper flew over North calling. Lound (Horse Paddocks) - Up to 50 Redwing, 5 Fieldfare and 1 Mistle Thrush. Lound Sewage Works - Single 'wintering' Chiffchaff still present but still no sign of the Siberian race bird here since 22nd February. Also here, female Grey Wagtail, 3 Pied Wagtails and up to 10 Redwings. Parish Park - Two Red-crested Pochard, 1 Little Grebe and 70 Redwings in flight. Linghurst Wood - Single Great Spotted Woodpecker. Linghurst Pool - A total of 21 Goldeneye present including just 3 males. Neatholme Fen - Two Snipe flew West, a total of 10 Goldeneye including just 2 males plus 1 Oystercatcher. Wildgoose Farm - Single Song Thrush and 2 Fieldfare. (M.Warne, P.Cadman)

Neatholme Pit - Single immature/female LONG-TAILED DUCK (PCa, BF, MF) still present. Neatholme Scrape - Single male Merlin flew South along waters edge, 2 Oystercatcher feeding on riverbank. Neatholme Fen - Up to 3 Little Egret, 10 Goldeneye including 8 males, 15 Pochard, 22 Shoveler, 2 Wigeon, small numbers of Mallard, Gadwall and Tufted Duck. Blaco Fields South - single 'Ringtail' HEN HARRIER (KW) flew towards River Idle, then back over Blaco Pit. Mattersey Priory - A number of SHORT-EARED OWLS (KW) are being noted around this area hunting along dykes. Wildgoose Farm - Single Tawny Owl in usual roosting area, Jay and Chaffinch. Lound Sewage Works - Two Bullfinch plus single Lesser Redpoll and Reed Bunting. Parish Park - Single 'wintering' Chiffchaff still present, 2 Pied Wagtail, 20 Goldfinch, 20 Redwing, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Red-crested Pochard, 1 Kestrel, small numbers of Tufted, Pochard, Coot and Moorhen. Lound (Horse Paddocks) - Mixed flock of c60 Redwing and Fieldfare, 100 Starling, 20 Goldfinch, Chaffinch and 1 Goldcrest. Bunker Wood - A flock of 30 Siskin. Tiln Fishery - 107 Wigeon, 8 Cormorant, 78 Greylag Geese and 6 Canada Geese. Bellmoor Lake - Up to 4 Oystercatcher, 40 Lapwing, 2 Wigeon, 2 Cormorant, 1 Heron, 12 Gadwall, 4 Mute Swan, 18 Teal, 6 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 181 Black-headed Gull, 1 Great Black-backed Gull, 4 Pochard, 2 Canada Goose, 2 Goosander, 10 Mallard, 43 Tufted Duck, 3 Moorhen and 69 Coot. Of interest a Second-winter KUMLIEN'S GULL and also a First-winter GLAUCOUS GULL were both reported again at Gainsborough Tip yesterday (7th) by Dean Nicholson. As there is known interaction between birds feeding there and later roosting at Lound we should all be on the lookout for these birds over the weekend. Bunker Wood - A flock of 40 Fieldfare, 2 Green Woodpecker plus 1 Skylark and 2 Bullfinch nearby. Chainbridge Wood NR - Single Great Spotted Woodpecker drumming. River Idle - Single Kingfisher. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Up to 4 SHORT-EARED OWLS (DM) flying from 3.30pm, 4 Oystercatcher and 2 Goldeneye. Cross Lane Marsh - Four Goldeneye and 1 Green Woodpecker. Neatholme Scrape - Six Goldeneye and 1 Little Grebe. Chainbridge NR Scrape - Two Oystercatcher and 1 Sparrowhawk.
