Friday 31st May

Chainbridge NR Scrape - Single Common Tern, 1 Hobby over, 1 Cuckoo calling and a large family party of Long-tailed Tit noted. Chainbridge Pit - Single Grasshopper Warbler and Turtle Dove noted here. Windsurf Pool - Pair of Mute Swan + 5 cygnets, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 1 pair of Red-crested Pochard, 1 Jay and 2 Buzzard over. Water Ski Pit - 2 pair of Great Crested Grebe plus a different Cuckoo calling. Cross Lane Marsh - Two Hobby noted over here today. Neatholme Scrape - 60+ Mute Swan, pair of Great Crested Grebe, 1 male Kestrel, 6 male Pochard and male cuckoo over. Neatholme Pit - Pair of Great Crested Grebe, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Hobby over and a female kestrel. Wildgoose Farm - Single Buzzard over. Thursday 30th May

A single female Marsh Harrier and 1 Hobby was reported at in the northern part of the reserve today. (@IdleValleyChat)

Parish Park - Single Cuckoo. Neatholme Lane - Single Lesser Whitethroat. Neatholme Fen - Single Hobby here at 13:30pm. Chainbridge Scrape (West) - Up to 3 Hobby present at 11:30am plus 1 Common Tern. Windsurf Pool - 5 Red-crested Pochard, 1 Great Crested Grebe. Hawthorn Lane - Two Garden Warbler. Cross Lane - Single Sedge Warbler and a Cuckoo heard from direction of Cross Lane Marsh. Chainbridge Pit - Singles of Grasshopper Warbler, Cuckoo and Turtle Dove. Walters Lane Pit - Two Shelduck and 1 Grey Heron. Sunday 26th May

Neatholme Lane - One to two Turtle Doves on wires by track to Wildgoose Farm and along lane in evening. Water Ski Pit - Single Hobby over. Neatholme Pit - Two Egyptian Geese (166) flew north over pit and landed at Blaco in fields at 12:50am. Neatholme Scrape - Two Common Terns plus 1 Little Egret, 2 Grey Partridge, 1 Pintail and 1 Cuckoo. Bellmoor Lake (Area) - Single Wheatear seen near the 'modern art' style steal seat and a Woodcock flushed along a track north of Tarmac offices. (D.Roberts, Stuart Allen, @IdleBirder)

Clayworth Common - Single GREAT WHITE EGRET (DHo) (165) observed flying north over common at 8:15am but bird continued north eventually going out of sight. Still a county rarity so a description will be submitted to the county recorder. Water Ski Pit - Singles of Turtle Dove, Cuckoo and Lesser Whitethroat all calling/singing. Wildgoose Farm - Single Buzzard. Neatholme Scrape - Two Common Terns on island. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Three Red-crested Pochard and 1 Oystercatcher. Walters Lane Pit - Two Redshank. Hawthorn Lane - Single Turtle Dove calling opposite green box plus a female Sparrowhawk flew north along lane. Water Ski Pit - Single Turtle Dove and Cuckoo calling. Sandy Hills - Single male Bullfinch. Short Rotation Coppice (North) - Single Hobby over. Walters Lane - Single Turtle Dove on wires which may be a separate bird to one above? Neatholme Lane - Single Turtle Dove calling here. Neatholme Scrape - Single Redshank flew towards Chainbridge Scrape. Blaco - Two Egyptian Goose on lake by island at 14:20pm. Bellmoor Area -Single of Buzzard, Song Thrush, Sedge Warbler, Green Woodpecker and Skylark, 2 Shelduck, 1 Wigeon, 5 Lesser Black-backed Gull plus numerous Garden Warbler, Blackcap, Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff and Whitethroat noted in area. Chainbridge NR Scrape - Single Black-tailed Godwit. Hayton Common - Single Marsh Harrier flew north. Walters Lane Pit - Two Little Ringed Plover. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Single Sanderling on eastern shore this am, 2 Ringed Plover, 2 Little Ringed Plover, 1 Redshank, single Cuckoo flew over towards Hayton, single female Marsh Harrier flew towards Clayworth Common and 1 male Wheatear. Chainbridge Pit - Single Ringed Plover. Clayworth Common (Spoil Heaps) - Single Hobby hunting low over here. Cross Lane - Single Cuckoo calling. Neatholme Scrape - Single Wood Sandpiper on eastern shoreline this am but had gone by 10:30am, 2 Black Tern here early am, single Dunlin, Ringed Plover and Redshank plus male Pintail, 2 Yellow Wagtail and 1 Common Tern. Neatholme Fen - Single Little Ringed Plover. Neatholme Lane - Single Turtle Dove calling near to Neatholme Fen viewing screen entrance. Wednesday 15th May

Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Up to 2 Sanderling on eastern shore until this evening, plus up to 6 Dunlin, 1 Yellow Wagtail, 1 Wigeon still, 2 Little Ringed Plover and 1 Ringed Plover. Chainbridge Pit - Single Cuckoo calling from east side. Chainbridge Lane - Single Jay. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Two Common Tern and 1 Dunlin. Walters Lane Pit - Single Ringed Plover. Cross Lane Marsh - Single female Marsh Harrier over here at 11:30am. Neatholme Bridge - Visual migration watching here between 12:00pm and 13:30pm produced 3 Arctic Tern south to north, single Marsh Harrier lingering, 5 Dunlin and 5 Ringed Plover south to north then a further 2 Dunlin south to north plus 6 unidentified waders south to north. Neatholme Scrape - Up to 8 Black Terns flew in from the south fed a while then eventually left in one flock north over Neatholme Bridge at 10:00am, a group of 7 Ruff flew in from south at 10:00am but did not rest and flew north, a group of 9 Dunlin flew in from south at 10:15am but did not rest and again flew north. Also here, 2 Turtle Dove flew over northern end of scrape and up to 50 House Martin noted. Neatholme Fen - Three Black Tern present here at 3:00pm. Neatholme Lane - Single Turtle Dove on wires. Clayworth Common - Single Hobby. Chainbridge Pit - Two Turnstone (thought to be different to yesterday's birds) were noted eastern shoreline from around midday? until 15:30pm at least. Walters Lane Pit - Single Wood Sandpiper (@IdleBirder) present late evening. Water Ski Pit - Single Turtle Dove on wires. Neatholme Pit - Single Great Crested Grebe. Neatholme Scrape - Single Cuckoo flew east over scrape, 1 Hobby, 1 Redshank, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Great Crested Grebe and 3 Dunlin. Parish Park - Single Lesser Whitethroat and Garden Warbler, 6 Blackcap, 3 Reed Warbler, 1 Sedge Warbler, 3 Whitethroat, 1 male Bullfinch, 1 Common Tern, 2 Buzzard and 4 Linnet. Doughty's Pit - The two 'pinioned' Ruddy Shelduck were present here having walked from the Wetlands Animal Park. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Single 'ringtail' HEN HARRIER (PHa,CS) noted from here this morning, the bird flew in low from the north being mobbed by crows, tried to settle on an island but was forced off and flew south at 8:35am. Also here, 2 Common Terns. Walters Lane Pit - Single Greenshank. Chainbridge Pit - Single Cuckoo over. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Single female Sparrowhawk over, 1 Dunlin and 2 Little Ringed Plover. Neatholme Pit - Single imm/female LONG-TAILED DUCK (IC,PCo) was still present at 10:00am. Clayworth Common - Two Hobby seen hawking from 14.09pm viewable from Neatholme Scrape viewing screen. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Eight Ringed Plover through this am, 1 Wheatear on island still, 2 Redshank and 2 Dunlin at 8:30pm. Chainbridge Pit - Single Cuckoo heard during evening, 2 Sedge Warbler alongside the river and 2 Redshank. Chainbridge Lane - Single Lesser Whitethroat and Reed Warbler. Walters Lane Pit - Single Greenshank, 1 Ruff and 1 Ringed Plover. Windsurf Pool - Five Red-crested Pochard (inc 4 males), 2 Reed Warbler and 1 Cuckoo. Cross Lane - Two Garden Warbler, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Sedge Warbler and Cuckoo over. Neatholme Scrape - Single Black Tern (160) dropped into scrape from the south at 13:35pm then flew over to Chainbridge Scrape and returned to here at 13:43pm, fed a while before picking up height at 13:57pm and flew high north over Blaco. Also here single Marsh Harrier at 14:09pm and 1 Sparrowhawk. Bellmoor Lake - Two Common Tern including copulating being noted and 1 Kingfisher, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Sedge Warbler, three pairs of Greylag Geese with gosling's and 1 male Red-crested Pochard. Parish Park - Two Little Grebe. Neatholme Pit - Single OSPREY (GH) flew north over here along the River Idle past Blaco Pits and over Gringley village then out of view at 8:05am plus 2 Great Crested Grebe, 4 Swift, 2 Yellow Wagtail, 2 Linnet and 1 Cuckoo. Neatholme Scrape - Single male Goldeneye, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Garden Warbler plus many Blackcaps in song. Neatholme Fen - Two Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Bullfinch, 3+ Garden Warbler, c5 Swift, 1 Cuckoo and a single Song Thrush mimicking the alarm call of Greenshank. The Willows - Single Lesser Whitethroat singing. Cross Lane Marsh - Single female Marsh Harrier being harassed by crows late morning. Cross Lane Fishery - Single Lesser Whitethroat and 2 Reed Warbler. Tiln North (Restoration Area) Up to 4 Dunlin present today, 2 Redshank, 2 Little Ringed Plover, 1 Ringed Plover, 2 Wheatear in NE corner at 12:15pm, 6 Shelduck, 2 Meadow Pipit and up to 5 Reed Bunting along the eastern edge fence line. Chainbridge Lane - A single Turtle Dove was on lane opposite the 'Charcon' Works this evening. couple of Reed Warblers and 1 Sedge Warbler singing from ditch. Water Ski Pit - Single Lesser Whitethroat in song. Windsurf Pool - Single Lesser Whitethroat in song. Walters Lane Pit - Single Ruff and Greenshank with the later present until 16:15pm at least. Lound (Horse Paddocks) - Single RAVEN (PCa,MWa) observed flying low SW and calling at 11.30am. Walters Lane - Two 'pinioned' Ruddy Shelducks from the Wetlands Animal Park were out on the track again early this morning confirming that the earlier bird on Chainbridge Scrape and behind The Willows was not one of these birds being fully able to fly.
