Butterflies May 2017

The 2017 Year List stands at 16 Recorded Species. The Reserve List has 28 Recorded Species

 

Wednesday 31st. The weather was very good, with Blue skies and plenty of sunshine after overnight rain. The maximum temperature was around 22°C. The first 2017 Reserve sighting of the Small Heath(PF), was recorded around the 'Lower Sheep Fields', there were singles of Painted Lady, Large Skipper and Large White, (2) Speckled Wood, a single Brown Argus with (4) Common Blue, three of which were male. Tuesday 30th. The weather was fine and dry although a little cloudy, the maximum temperature was around 20°C. The first

Sighting of Large Skipper was noted, with singles of Orange Tip and Green-veined White, (2) Speckled Wood, (4) Red Admiral, a single Comma and (5) male Common Blue. (Pete Freeman)

 

Friday 26th. It was another superb day of wall to wall sunshine, the maximum temperature was around 26°C, there was a brisk warm breeze from the South-East. A walk around the Northern area of the Reserve produced very few Butterflies, just singles of Speckled Wood, and Red Admiral, with (2) male Common Blue. (Ian Hunt, Phil Cadman)

 

Wednesday 24th. The weather was superb, there were a few scattered clouds and plenty of sunshine, the maximum temperature reached 25°C. A walk around the South of the reserve produced (8) Orange Tip, (3) Large White, (4) Red Admiral and the first 2017 Lound records of Painted Lady (PCa) and Common Blue, (PF) (Phil Cadman, Pete Freeman)

 

Monday 22nd. Once again there were blue skies, sunshine and scattered clouds, there was a little wind from the South-West, the maximum temperature was around 22°C.  Recorded around the Northern part of the reserve today were (7) Orange Tip, (2) Green-veined White, a single female Brimstone, (2) Speckled Wood, (2) Red Admiral and a single Holly Blue. Sunday 21st. There were blue skies, sunshine and scattered clouds, there was a little wind from the South-West, the maximum temperature was around 19°C. There were (8) Orange Tip, a single Large White which was an addition to the Reserve 2017 Year List, (3) Green-veined White, (2) Speckled Wood, with singles of Red Admiral and Peacock, (2) Small Tortoiseshell and a single Brown Argus, which was an addition to the Reserve 2017 Year List, all were noted around the Northern part of the reserve. Thursday 18th.  The Maximum temperature was around 17°C, there were (6) male Orange Tip, (4) Green-veined White, (Male and female) Brimstone, with singles of Small Copper and Small Tortoiseshell. (Phil Cadman, Ian Hunt)

 

Sunday 14th. The maximum temperature was around 20°C. There was a single Holly Blue recorded in 'Chainbridge Wood NR' and the first 2017 record of (2) Dingy Skipper that were noted around 'Wildgoose Farm'. (Pete Rose)

 

Thursday 11th. The Maximum temperature was around 17°C, there was a single Small Copper (DM, VM), which was a 2017 Reserve List Addition, (4) Orange Tip, (2) Speckled Wood, (2) Peacock, and a single Green-veined White, that were recorded around the reserve. (Ian Hunt, Dave and Viv Mannifield)

 

Thursday 4th. There was a single Red Admiral, which was recorded in the garden, it was the first reserve record of the year, the maximum temperature was around 16°C. (Pete Freeman)
