Dragonflies May 2017

The 2017 Year List has 6 Recorded Species. The LBC/IVNR List has 19 Recorded Species

Wednesday 31st. The weather was very good, with Blue skies and plenty of sunshine after overnight rain. The maximum temperature was around 22°C. There were (8) Red-eyed Damselfly, an estimated number of (600) Common Blue Damselfly,   (10) Blue-tailed Damselfly and (6) Four-spotted Chaser that were noted in 'Parish Park'. Friday 26th. It was another superb day of wall to wall sunshine, the maximum temperature was around 26°C, there was a brisk warm breeze from the South-East. A walk around the Northern area of the Reserve produced an estimated number of (c295) Common Blue Damselfly, (15) Blue-tailed Damselfly and (6) Four-spotted Chaser that were noted. Wednesday 24th. The weather was superb, there were a few scattered clouds the sun shone, the maximum temperature reached 25°C. Recorded around the reserve today were (48) Banded Demoiselle, (c50) Common Blue Damselfly, (2) male Hairy Dragonfly, and a single Four-spotted Chaser. (Phil Cadman, Pete Rose)

Monday 22nd. Once again there were blue skies, sunshine and scattered clouds, there was a little wind from the South-West, the maximum temperature was around 22°C.  Recorded around the Northern part of the reserve today were (2) Hairy Dragonfly, (27) Banded Demoiselle which included 22 males, (2) Four-spotted Chaser, there was an estimated number of (250) Common Blue Damselfly, that were noted, there were (10) Blue-tailed Damselfly, that were also recorded. Sunday 21st. There were blue skies, sunshine and scattered clouds, there was a little wind from the South-West, the maximum temperature was around 19°C. There was an estimated number of 480 Common Blue Damselflies and (10) Blue-tailed Damselflies that were noted around the Reserve. (Ian Hunt, Phil Cadman)

Thursday 18th. There were blue skies, scattered clouds and sunshine, the maximum temperature was around 17°C. There were (2) Hairy Dragonfly, (6) Banded Demoiselle, (68) Common Blue Damselfly and (2) Blue-tailed Damselfly, that were recorded around the reserve. (Phil Cadman, Ian Hunt)

Monday 15th. The weather was unsettled with showers and a brisk South-Easterly wind, the Maximum temperature was around 18°C. There were (25) Common Blue Damselfly, that were recorded around the reserve. (Phil Cadman, Ian Hunt)

Sunday 14th. The maximum temperature was around 20°C. There were (40+) Common Blue Damselfly, (9) Banded Demoiselle and (5) Hairy Dragonfly, that were recorded around the Reserve. (Pete Rose)

Wednesday 10th The maximum temperature was around 19°C. The first Hairy Dragonflies of 2017 were recorded when an astonishing record of (7) individuals were recorded in 'Chainbridge Wood NR'. There were (5) Banded Demoiselle and the first 2017 record of Four-spotted Chaser when 3 were recorded in 'Parish Park'. (Pete Rose)
