Tuesday 3rd July
 
Parish Park - A good number of orchids noted here today including; Bee Orchid 20+, Marsh Orchid 30+, Common Spotted Orchid 30+ including a few Common Spotted/Marsh hybrids. Also a good showing of Yellow Bartsia, some Grass Vetchling, Rough Chervil & Black Horehound amongst some 50 flower spiecies recorded. Good numbers of Meadow Brown, Ringlets and a few Small Heaths. Many Common Blue & Azure Damselflies and a few Blue-tailed Damselflies. Single female Black-tailed Skimmer and 1 male Emperor Dragonfly. (Bernard & Maureen Featherstone)

Pauline and Alan Bradford recorded the following butterflies on the reserve today - 18 Orange-tip, 1 Brimstone, 6 Green-veined White, 8 Peacock, 2 Speckled Wood, 2 Comma and 1 Common Blue.

Club member Mike Vickers has shared with us the following images of one of the many SMOOTH NEWTS Lissotriton vulgaris that currently reside in his garden pond in Lound. No newts were harmed whilst obtaining these fantastic images which were in fact taken through the side of a large glass jar.

The Willows - An hoverfly species was photographed here today and has now been identified as Syrphus ribesii (Please see image below but check out the minute rain drop on the body). Linghurst Wood - A male SPRING USHER moth (the females are actually wingless) was photographed here today (see image below). Their foodplant is oak and they are on the wing from January until March so its in right woodland habitat at the right time of year. Also, up to 11 Ladybird were noted in the woodland. (M.Warne)
