Thank you for visiting the Lound Bird Club web site, for looking at this page and for your interest in possibly becoming a member of the Lound Bird Club. As a member of the club you are entitled to take part in the various activities/events that we have throughout the year but the scale of your involvement is solely at your own discretion. Members receive a minimum of four news bulletins (or E-news bulletins) per year either via paper or e-mail, a copy of the latest Annual Bird Report, a membership card, a updated bird check-list and other information provided on joining the club. You will also become an automatic member of the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust via our group membership subscription and are entitled to visit any of their reserves (written permission for large parties) during the year including their newly created Idle Valley Nature Reserve which can be found within the confines of our much wider bird recording area.
If you wish you can also submit articles/photographs about bird related topics i.e. Holidays, Walks, Reserves, Favourite Birds, Rare Birds, Common Birds and basically almost anything of interest which we can share with other members through the bi-monthly newsletter or web site.
Of much greater importance are your bird watching records which we would like from you on a daily or monthly basis so that we can not only compile our daily web site updates but we can also use them in compiling our ‘bi-monthly’ bulletin Bird News article and further more every one of these records can be filed in our own database and used later when compiling the annual bird report for that given year. Please include as much detail as possible so that we can get a better picture when sifting through the numerous reports. Please use the map as a guide when sending in bird records and also please send us any breeding bird information that you observe whilst in the field. Please put your sightings in the log book provided at the viewpoint overlooking Neatholme Scrape for others to see but please do not include scarce breeding birds for obvious reasons (please send these into us separately).
If you have access to e-mail you can send your bird sightings to Gary Hobson (Website Administrator) via email@example.com and he will also be happy to answer any questions relating to the club. This dedicated Lound Bird Club Web Site has been created so that members and visitors can browse up to date information for Lound, the Lound Bird Club and also see other related information for the recording area and Idle Valley Nature Reserve.
We currently have around 80-90 members who have varying degrees of involvement with the club. About 20% are very pro-active and attend nearly, if not all monthly WeBS/Bird Counts, which involves counting various sections of the recording area once a month to try to establish accurate populations of birds present. The Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS) data is sent to the BTO to be included in the national statistics and used to compile the annual 'Waterbirds in the UK' report. It was this monthly information that helped towards getting a major part of the recording area its SSSI status and providing the stepping stone to what is now the Idle Valley Nature Reserve.
If you need any help at all with anything relating to Lound please do not hesitate to call or e-mail any of the persons named on the LBC Contacts page. We will be glad to help if we can.
