Bird Sightings - January 2013

Thursday 31st January
Long-tailed Duck still present but no sign of 'redhead' Smew today?
Neatholme Pit - Single immature/female LONG-TAILED DUCK (SD) still present but was elusive in NE corner adjacent to river bank. Neatholme Pit - Single Tawny Owl noted. Linghurst Wood - Up to 50 Siskin, 80 Redpoll, 2 Treecreeper and 3 Green Woodpecker. Lound Sewage Works - Two Chiffchaff were present again this morning including the 'pale looking' probable 'Siberian' Chiffchaff Phylloscopus c. tristis (SD,VG,TT,KW et al), also here up to 10+ Goldcrest and 1 Grey Wagtail. Wednesday 30th January
Very poor weather and gusting winds hampered birding today.
Lound (Horse Paddocks) - Single Goldcrest in hedgrow. Parish Park - Up to 9 Red-crested Pochard, 50 Redpoll, 2 Bullfinch and 2 Goldcrest. Linghurst Wood - Thrirty Redpoll and 5 Siskin. Neatholme Fen - Single Little Egret present. Wildgoose Farm - Two Tawny Owls in usual area. Sheep Field (Low Level) - Single moribund Black-headed Gull impaled on barbed wire fence between fields which was thought to have been blown into wire in gusting winds. (M.Warne)

Tuesday 29th January
Very poor weather today.
Sheep Fields (Low Level) - Two RUFF, 1 Shelduck, 40 Fieldfare, 20 Redwing and c300 Starlings. Mucky Pond (Area) - Single Sparrowhawk and 6 Redpoll. Walters Lane Pit - Single Little Egret and 1 Jay. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Eight Shelduck. Chainbridge Wood NR - Single Sparrowhawk. Hayton Common - Single Buzzard. Clayworth Common - Twenty Whooper Swans, 1 Buzzard and 1 Skylark. Neatholme Scrape - Single male Pintail. Neatholme Pit - Single imm/female LONG-TAILED DUCK (DM) still present at 1:00pm today plus 1 WATER RAIL calling from small island in front of viewing mound. Monday 28th January
Probable Siberian Chiffchaff again and photographed but call still not confirmed.
Lound Sewage Works - The probable 'Siberian' Chiffchaff Phylloscopus c. tristis (IC,MW,PCa,JKi) was seen well again this morning on the compound fence but to correct an earlier post the call has not been confirmed as yet. Also here, 1 Treecreeper, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 2 Goldcrest and 1 Coal Tit in plantation plus 1 Grey Wagtail and 3 Pied Wagtail on filter beds. Parish Park (Linghurst Lakes) - Single Great Spotted Woodpecker and up to 9 Red-crested Pochard. Linghurst Wood - Up to 3 Little Egret roosting in trees. Linghurst Pool - Single Little Egret feeding. Neatholme Fen - Single 'redhead' SMEW (MWa,PCa,IC,JKi,TT,KW) still present at midday plus 2 Bullfinch. Blaco - Up to 50 Fieldfare present. Neatholme Pit - Single immature/female LONG-TAILED DUCK (TT,KW) still present plus 2 Tawny Owls roosting nearby. The Willows (Clayworth Copse) - Two Pink-footed Geese feeding in flooded field. Neatholme Scrape - Single male Pintail present. Clayworth Common - Up to 4 Whooper Swans with Mute Swan herd. Cross Lane Marsh - A flock of 10 Redwings were seen over. Walters Lane Pit - Up to 11 Shelduck present. Walters Lane - Approx 30 WAXWINGS (IC) on the lane and in hedgrows 100m north of Walters Farm at 9:45am but soon moved off. Sunday 27th January
The pale looking Chiffchaff, a possible candidate for a Siberian Chiffchaff was noted at Lound Sewage Works again today. Redhead Smew also seen again today. 
Cross Lane/Neatholme Fen single MARSH TIT (DHu) was observed and heard calling, it then flew along Cross Lane with a small Tit flock. Lound Sewage Works - Single 'pale' looking Chiffchaff sp (IC,DHu,MDa) again seen briefly this morning. Plumage fetures and bare part colours point to a possible 'Siberian' Chiffchaff Phylloscopus c. tristis but the call is still not confirmed. Linghurst Wood - Up to 8 Bullfinch. Neatholme Fen - Single 'redhead' SMEW (DHu,MV,DHo,DRo,PCa,IH) again from mid am plus 6 Goldeneye, 35 Shoveler, 10 Teal, 10 Wigeon, 10 Tufted Duck, 19 Gadwall and 9 Pochard. Neathome Scrape - Single BITTERN (DHo,DHu) noted again on main island mid morning plus 1 Green Sandpiper, 3 Pink-footed Geese and c170 Greylag Geese. Neatholme Pit - Single LONG-TAILED DUCK (PCa,IH,DRo,DHu) noted again plus 15 Pochard and 20 Tufted Duck. Clayworth Common - Up to 30 Whooper Swans were noted from mid afternoon in field opposite Neatholme Scrape but no sign of Bewick's Swan today. Also here, 163 Mute Swans, 2 Grey Partridge, 25+ Skylark, 18 Golden Plover flew SW, 20 Linnet and 3 Meadow Pipits. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - A total of 166 Teal, 51 Gadwall, 12 Wigeon, 30 Tufted Duck and 16 Shoveler. Saturday 26th January
Two Bitterns noted on main island at Neatholme Scrape today.
Neatholme Scrape - Single BITTERN (IC) noted on main island at 12:15pm with two birds present here from 12:30pm (AS,DHo). Neatholme Fen - Single 'redhead' SMEW (BF,MF) present briefly at 13:30pm this afternoon. Clayworth Common - Single adult BEWICK'S SWAN (ASh) still present with Mute Swans. Friday 25th January
Lound Sewage Works - Two Chiffchaff (TT) noted including a 'pale bird' again, 1 Grey Wagtail and 9 Pied Wagtail. Lound Village - Twenty Yellowhammers feeding. Parish Park - Up to 140 Redpoll, 45 Siskin, 2 Goldcrest, 1 Sparowhawk and 6 Red-crested Pochard. Blaco - Six Goosander, 3 Shelduck and 840 Rooks. Neatholme Pit - Single immature/female LONG-TAILED DUCK (VG,TT,KW) still present today. Clayworth Common - Single adult BEWICK'S SWAN (VG,TT,KW) with Mute Swan, 1 Snipe, 1 Green Sandpiper and 35 Reed Buntings. Chainbridge NR Scrape (West) - Four Buzzards. Thursday 24th January
Neatholme Pit - Single immature/female LONG-TAILED DUCK (PCa,IH) still present today plus up to to WATER RAIL (PCa,IH) seen and heard on main island. Walters Lane - Single WAXWING (PCa) in tree tops behind Mucky Pond area. Walters Lane Pit - Single WOODCOCK (PCa,IH) in flight over here and Chainbridge Meadows. The Willows (Clayworth Copse) - Single Little Egret and Snipe flew from dyke.  Clayworth Common - Single adult BEWICK'S SWAN (PCa,IH) with Mute Swans still plus 3 Grey Partridge. Parish Park - Two pair of Red-crested Pochard. Clayworth Common - Single adult BEWICK'S SWAN (KR) with c40 Mute Swans at 10:00am today plus 4 Meadow Pipit and 4 Pied Wagtail. Tuesday 22nd January
Long-tailed Duck present for its third day.
Lound Sewage Works - Three Pied Wagtails. Parish Park - c100 Siskin, 30 Redpoll, 8 Red-crested Pochard, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 3 Fieldfare and 3 Redwings.  Wildgoose Farm - Two Tawny Owls, 3 Bullfinch, 7 Fieldfare, 2 Yellowhammer and 3 Red-legged Partridge. Blaco - Two Skylarks and 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker. Neatholme Pit - Single immature/female LONG-TAILED DUCK (MW) still present today. Neatholme Fen - Single immature Whooper Swan present at 12:45pm. The Willows (Clayworth Copse) - Two Green Sandpipers seen in flight, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Buzzard and 2 Grey Partridge. Neatholme Scrape - Single Goosander. River Idle - One Grey Heron and 1 Goldeneye. Sunday 20th January
A surprise Long-tailed Duck found on Neatholme Pit mid morning plus single Brambling, 1 Ruff and 2 Dunlin noted.
Neatholme Pit -  An immature/female  LONG-TAILED DUCK (DHo,HS) was found at 10.40am feeding close to the observation mound where it gave excellent views plus 7 Goldeneye, 1 Grey Heron and 1 Great Crested Grebe.

Neatholme Fen - Single Green Woodpecker, c20 Herring Gull, 10 Goldeneye, 2 Reed Bunting, c30 Long-tailed Tit, 2 Goldcrest and several Robins and Wrens in area. Parish Park - Single Treecreeper, 2 Song Thrush, c20 Redwings, c30 Fieldfare and 1 Green Woodpecker. Linghurst Wood - c30 Redwing and 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker. Sheep Fields (Low Level) - Up to 30 Snipe and a single RUFF which flew off. Clayworth Common - Up to 17 Whooper Swans flew from Mattersey towards Clayworth Common early morning. Lound Sewage Works - Single Grey Wagtail and 1 Chiffchaff feeding on filter beds. Neatholme Fen - Three Whooper Swans, 1 Snipe 1 Green Woodpecker and 2 Goldeneye. Wildgoose Farm - Two Tawny Owls, 2 Bullfinch and 2 Greenfinch. Parish Park - Seven Redwings noted. Neatholme Pit - Single Sparrowhawk. Neatholme Scrape - A group of 7 male Pintail noted here today. Cross Lane - Single WOODCOCK (PJF) flew over here at 1:40pm today. Walters Farm - a small flock of Redpoll with Chaffinch and Redwings around barn area. Wildgoose Farm - Three WAXWINGS (IC,DHo et al) noted feeding again on 'rose hips' this morning near cottage, 2 Green Woodpecker, 2 Greenfinch, 1 Barn Owl hunting area and 2 Tawny Owls nearby.

Sunday 13th January - WeBS/Bird Count
Up to 18 Waxwing were noted again feeding a resting in the same area as the birds seen on Friday. Also, a female Merlin at Tiln North and a possible 'tristis' type Chiffchaff with a regular 'collybita' type bird at Lound Sewage Works but this is still to be confirmed. 
Wildgoose Farm - Up to 18 WAXWINGS (MWa,DRo,SD et al) mid morning in this area. Birds were either in the hedgerow along the dyke on the south side of the farm or in the tall Poplar trees to the north behind the farm buildings. Birds flew towards Parish Park and Lound Village at 11.35am but had retuned to the hedgerow by 13:15pm. Also here, 2 Tawny Owls, 1 Green Woodpecker, 2 Bullfinch, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Buzzard and 1 Sparrowhawk.

Neatholme Fen - Three Little Egrets noted here plus 1 Pink-footed Goose and 1 Snipe. Neatholme Scrape - Single Shelduck and 1 male Pintail. Horse Paddocks - Single Green Woodpecker, 15 Redwings and 1 Fieldfare. Parish Park - Single Goldcrest, 10 Red-crested Pochard and 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker. Lound Sewage Works - Two Chiffchaff present including a pale grey 'tristis' type bird (DRo,MWa) plus 1 female Grey Wagtail and 1 Goldcrest. The Willows (Clayworth Copse) - Up to 15 Meadow Pipit and 8 Pied Wagtail on flooded field. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Single female MERLIN (DRo) on posts here at 15:50pm. Hayton Common - A count of 12 Grey Partridge here today. Neatholme Pit - Single SHORT-EARED OWL (MWa) perched on a fence post by the side of the river plus 2 Goosander on pit. Hallcroft/Bellmoor/Tiln (Areas) - A total of 6 WATER RAILS (VG) were noted calling from five reedbed locations.

Bellmoor Lake - Up to 10 Snipe and 10 Goosander. Sheep Fields (Low Level) - Single Oystercatcher still. Chainbridge NR Scrape (West) - Single Redwing. Neatholme Fen - Single Goldeneye. Neatholme Pit - Single Goldeneye and 2 Goosander. The Willows (Clayworth Copse) - Single male MERLIN (MWa) perched. Cross Lane Marsh - Single Little Egret and c50 Redpoll. Clayworth Common - Single Buzzard. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Two SHORT-EARED OWLS (ASh) and 1 Barn Owl at 4:15pm. (M.Warne, A.Shooter)

Friday 11th January
Wildgoose Farm - A group of 16 WAXWINGS (BM) were seen feeding and resting in a hedgerow near to the farm by the deep ditch. The birds were fairly approachable and were photographed (see below) by the visiting observer who got to within 5 metres of the birds. Also here the two Tawny Owls were in the usual area. Parish Park (Linghurst Lakes) - Up to 12 Red-crested Pochard. Neatholme Fen - Two male Pintail noted today. Also seen today in this general area were the 'feral' Bar-headed Goose with Greylags again and up to 14 Bullfinch. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Up to 4 SHORT-EARED OWLS (PJF,DM,AB,PB) noted this afternoon with two birds hunting over the cut Willow plantation next to Chainbridge Pit. Chainbridge Lane (Boat Inn Fishery) Area - A single BITTERN (DE) was reported in the reedbed here today viewable from Chainbridge Lane through the hedgerow opposite the Charcon factory yard. Thursday 10th January
Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Up to 3 SHORT-EARED OWLS (DM) from 1pm onwards in usual places plus 6 Reed Bunting. Clayworth Common - Two Buzzard together for most of the day possibly a prospective breeding pair. Sheep Fields - Single Oystercatcher. Chainbridge NR Scrape - c200 Pink-footed Geese flew over at 4:00pm, 3 Shelduck, 1 Grey Heron, 2 Goldeneye plus a small Starling roost of c100 birds. (D.Mannifield)

Wednesday 9th January
Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Three SHORT-EARED OWLS (DM), 1 MERLIN (DM), 6 Grey Partridge and 1 Barn Owl. Neatholme Scrape - Three Pintail still on scrape. Chainbridge Pit - Two Goldeneye and 1 Grey Heron. (D.Mannifield)

Tuesday 8th January
Bellmoor Lake - Single Ruff, 50 Snipe, 5 Red-crested Pochard, 1 Goosander, single Kingfisher (PCa) harrassed by Herring Gull and 2 Goldcrest in nearby hedgerows. Hallcroft Fishery - Three Goldcrest, 1 Coal Tit and 1 Kingfisher flying upstream along river. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Single male MERLIN (MW,DM) hunting and roosting at 15:15pm plus 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS (MW,DM) and 15 Grey Partridge flushed by owls. Monday 7th January
A belated report of a possible White-tailed Eagle for today submitted by e-mail on 10th January.
Tiln North (Restoration Area) - A bird of prey described as a 'very large raptor' with a 'large all yellow bill' and believed to have been a 'possible' White-tailed Eagle was first seen distantly by the single observer, John Tupling to the south of the Tiln North (Restoration Area) alighting upon a fence post at 11:00am, he watched it for five minutes through his scope before it disappeared from view when his eyes were taken off the bird and it was not seen again or reported to local birders. A brief description and details have been sent to the LBC and are also being submitted to the county recorder. The observer has seen many White-tailed Eagles at well know west coast sites in Scotland so id familier with the species. This would be only the second modern day record of White-tailed Eagle in Nottinghamshire. Parish Park - Up to 12 Red-crested Pochard. Wildgoose Farm - Two Tawny Owls in usual location. Blaco - c200 Pink-footed Geese moving NW plus 1 Buzzard. Neatholme Pit - Five Goldeneye and 1 Goosander. Neatholme Fen - Single Goldcrest. Neatholme Scrape - Six Shelduck, 7 Goldeneye and 2 male Pintail. Neatholme Pit - Two Goosander. River Idle - Two Green Sandpipers flew off from river bank waters edge. The Willows (Clayworth Copse) - Single Green Sandpiper, 8 Grey Partridge, 1 Redwing over, 2 Yellowhammer and 6 Pied Wagtail, 50 Fieldfare, 15 Meadow Pipits all feeding in flooded field. Clayworth Common - Single SHORT-EARED OWL (MW,PCa)1 Buzzard and 1 Barn Owl, c430 Lapwing and 60 Linnet. Water Ski Pit - Six Goldeneye. Chainbridge Pit - Single Bullfinch. Sheep Fields (High Level) - Three Pink-footed Geese with Greylags, 200 Fieldfare and 2 Redwings. Walters Lane Pit - Single Shelduck plus c100 Chaffinch in nearby hedgerow. Sunday 6th January
Sutton-cum-Lound - A total of c20 WAXWINGS (MGo) were noted around Pick's General Store at 8:30am but had departed by 9:30am when they were looked for again. A628 Great North Road - A large gathering of 110 WAXWINGS (GH,BHu et al) noted roosting in roadside tall trees in wood just north of the East Coast Mainline Railway Bridge at approx 12:00pm but the majority began to quickly move off north flying towards Sutton-cum-Lound. A short time later around 12:10pm c50 WAXWINGS (presumed part of the same flock) were noted again at Sutton-cum-Lound this time by the railway level crossing before moving off north again along the line of the railway. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Up to four SHORT-EARED OWLS (MW) noted this afternoon. Hayton Common - Single Barn Owl and 6 Grey Partridge. Bellmoor Lake - Single male Pintail, 10 Goosander, 1 Grey Heron, 40 Snipe, 100+ Lapwing, 10+ Red-crested Pochard, 1 Little Grebe and c20 Redpoll. Sheep Fields (Low Level) - Ten Fieldfare and 1 Skylark.  Blaco - Both male and female MERLINS (PCa,IH) were noted here this morning plus Little Owl. Bunker Wood - A flock of c200 Redpoll. Bellmoor Area - An estimated c1,000+ Pink-footed Geese moved NW over this area this morning. Hallcroft Fishery - Single WATER RAIL (DHo) was noted in reedbed by main gate this morning. A large NW movement of Pink-footed Geese was noted accross the site today recording the following flocks.
Bellmoor Lake - 115 @10:30am and a further 200 @10:45am

Bellmoor Lake - A total of 85 Snipe present today with 10 Red-crested Pochard, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Goldcrest, 7 Goosander and 2 Little Grebe. Lound Sewage Works - Single Grey Wagtail. Parish Park - Single Goldcrest. Wildgoose Farm - Two Redpoll flocks od c250 and c100 in two locations plus 1 Treecreeper and 3 Tree Sparrows. Blaco Farm - Seven Red-legged Partridge. Blaco Pits - Single Sparrowhawk. Blaco Fields - Four Yellowhammer, 4 Red-legged Partridge, 23 Fieldfare and 1 Buzzard. Hayton Common - Single Barn Owl hunting late afternoon. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Two SHORT-EARED OWLS (MW,DHo,DRo) noted late afternoon. Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Single Meadow Pipit and 60 Redwings over. Chainbridge Pit - Four SHORT-EARED OWLS (DM) were noted around this area late afternoon and were in addition to those seen over Tiln North above. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Three SHORT-EARED OWLS (DM) noted today plus 2 Buzzard. Hayton Common - Single Barn Owl flew over here and Tiln North before heading back to Hayton Village. Chainbridge Wood NR - Three Bullfinch here then flew towards Chainbridge Pit. Lound Sewage Works - Single Grey Wagtail and 2 Pied Wagtails. Parish Park (Linghurst Lakes) - Four Red-crested Pochard, 1 Goldcrest plus c100 Siskin & Redpoll in a mixed flock. Water Ski Pit - Four Red-crested Pochard. Lound village - Single Coal Tit coming to feeders at house near village crossroads. Bellmoor Lake - Two Ruff again and up to 16 Goosander. (D.Mannifield, P.Cottam)

Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Up to 4 SHORT-EARED OWL (PCa,IH,SD,DM) noted here today with 1 Buzzard. Clayworth Common - Three Whooper Swans with c100+ Mute Swans and 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS (PCa,IH,SD) present here. Chainbridge Pit - Two Redpoll in bush on east side plus 4 Reed Buntings. Hayton Common - Single Barn Owl present again. Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Single Sparrowhawk over. Chainbridge NR Scrape - Two Goldeneye and 1 Green Woodpecker. Chainbridge Lane - Single Grey Partridge. Bellmoor Lake - A record breaking flock of c130 Snipe flew high over lake, 2 Ruff feeding with roosting Lapwing and 1 Kingfisher being chased over lake by Black-headed Gulls. An excellent days birding today with a combined total of 86 species noted plus the addition of a 'feral' Bar-headed Goose. Good numbers of wildfowl present and a few rare and scarce birds to add to the fun.   
Sutton Village - Two Kestrels along Sutton Lane. Lound Village - Two Coal Tit, 1 Goldcrest, 2 Stock Dove, c100 Rook, 4 Blue Tit , 1 Mistle Thrush and 15+ Greenfinch. Chainbridge Lane - Two Bullfinch, 1 Kestrel, 2 Redwing, 1 Song Thrush and 3 Goldfinch. Walters Lane Pit - Four Shelduck noted. Walters Farm - c15 Collared Dove, 2 House Sparrows, 20 Chaffinch and c50 Starlings in area. Sheep Fields - Three Pied Wagtail, c350 Lapwing, 30 Common Gull and 1 Stock Dove. Windsurf Pool - Single Jay. Chainbridge NR Scrape - Up to 8 Shelduck late afternoon, 1 Bar-headed Goose with Greylags early morning, 3 Stock Dove, 39 Shoveler, 5 Cormorant, 2 Bullfinch and 1 Willow Tit noted. Chainbridge Pit - c370 Wigeon, 2 Goldeneye, 2 Pied Wagtail, 5 Long-tailed Tit, 8 Bullfinch and 1 Green Woodpecker. Chainbridge Wood NR - Single Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers and 1 Dunnock. River Idle - Single Kingfisher. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Three SHORT-EARED OWLS (PCo,PJF,MGo et al) present late afternoon, 1 male PEREGRINE (PCo,PJF,MGo) noted distantly over scrape and settled briefly, 2 Kestrel, 1 Mistle Thrush, 4 Fieldfare early morning, 1 Goosander, 30+ Linnet, 2 Grey Partridge, 1 Snipe and 1 Green Woodpecker. Clayworth Common - Single adult Whooper Swan late afternoon with 91+ Mute Swans, 2 Kestrel, 1 Meadow Pipit, 1 male Sparrowhawk and 2 Buzzard (inc a pale bird late pm). Hayton Common - c200 Golden Plover. Cross Lane Marsh - Single Grey Heron and 10 Shoveler. The Willows - Single Green Sandpiper noted. Neatholme Pit - Single Little Grebe and 4 Cormorant. Neatholme Scrape - Two adult Whooper Swans early morning, a pair of Pintail, 10 Shoveler, 20 Canada Goose, 4 Red-crested Pochard, 20 Teal and 2 Cormorant. Water Ski Pit - Five Goldeneye and 1 Kestrel. Neatholme Fen - Two Goldeneye and 1 Little Grebe. Linghurst Pool - Single Little Egret early morning, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Song Thrush and 15+ Long-tailed Tit. Wildgoose Farm - Two Tawny Owls in usual area plus 15 Grey Partridge. Blaco - Two Tree Sparrow, 1 Jay, 4 Yellowhammer, 2 Red-legged Partridge, 15 Golden Plover, 200 Lapwing, 1 Great Grested Grebe, 20 Starling, 3 Cormorant, 1 Snipe, 1 Meadow Pipit and 4 Buzzard (inc a pale bird early morning). Linghurst Wood - c100 Redpoll, c50 Siskin and c20 Goldfinch. Lound Sewage Works - Single Grey Wagtail, 1 Chiffchaff, 2 Goldcrest and 2 Pied Wagtail. Parish Park (Linghurst Lakes) - Four Red-crested Pochard. Cross Lane Fishery - Single Redwing. Neatholme Lane - Single Green Woodpecker and Bullfinch. Bellmoor Lake - Single JACK SNIPE (DE) reported at 13:15pm, 2 Ruff, 75+ Snipe, c150 Lapwing at dusk, 9 Goosander, 2 Goldeneye, 16 Red-crested Pochard, 90+ Pochard, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Kestrel and 1 WATER RAIL (DHo) calling. Hallcroft Fishery - Near entrance gate in Willows single Chiffchaff again today, up to 5 Reed Buntings roosting in reedbed and 1 WATER RAIL (GH,VG) calling here at dusk. Whole Site - Wildfowl numbers still high with count totals of 972 Wigeon, 709 Gadwall, 205 Pochard and 103 Shoveler plus a couple of hundred Teal. Kestrels were also very visible today with an estimate of at least 10 birds feeding across the whole recording area today.
