Monday 31st March

No sign of yesterday's Slavonian Grebe today.
Cross Lane - Single RED KITE (SDu) high over here at 2:40pm for 5 minutes then drifted west. Cross Lane Fishery - c80 Sand Martin here today. Linghurst Wood - Two Willow Warbler and 3 Chiffchaff. Blaco - Five Red-crested Pochard and 4 Oystercatcher. Neatholme Fen - Single Sanderling (121) found here at 11:55am and was still present at 3:30pm at least. Also here, 1 Dunlin, 2 Little Egret, 1 Green Sandpiper, 3 Snipe and 1 Redshank. Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Single Redshank and 7 Whooper Swans. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Single Peregrine again on distant pylon plus 'cream crowned' Marsh Harrier hunting fishing pits to the south of here at 17:15pm, 6 Sand Martin and 1 Goosander. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Single male Garganey (122) reported as being here on Twitter/RBA today, also here, 3 Snipe. Chainbridge Lane (Old Tarmac Yard) - Two Little Ringed Plover again. Saturday 29th March
Chainbridge NR Scrape (West) - Two Pochard and 2 Grey Herons. Hawthorn Lane - Two Chiffchaff singing, 1 Dunnock. Windsurf Pool - Pair of Red-crested Pochard, 10 Tufted Duck and 1 Great Crested Grebe. Also seen at distance over trees was a harrier sp thought by the observer to have possibly been a HEN HARRIER (AN) but not 100% sure of the identification. Neatholme Scrape - Six Shelduck, 4 Teal, 4 Shoveler and 10 Wigeon. Bellmoor lake - Single Oystercatcher, lots of Black-headed Gulls, Lesser black-backed Gulls and 1 Red-crested Pochard. Friday 28th March
Cross Lane Fishery - Single adult male HEN HARRIER (IC,MD) (119) flew NE over here at 11:10am. Bellmoor/Hallcroft - Single first-winter Mediterranean Gull (120) present here at 1:00pm. Chainbridge Pit - Single Marsh Harrier over here at 15:00pm. (I.Cowgill, M.Dawson, R.Shaw via Twitter)

Thursday 27th March
Chainbridge NR Scrape - Single female Marsh Harrier, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker over towards willow field, 1 Green Woodpecker calling from near wood plus a pair of Goldeneye. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Two Little Egret and 1 Redshank. Cross Lane Marsh - c20+ Sand Martin feeding over here. Chainbridge Lane - A total of 41 Fieldfare in hedges and flew onto ploughed willow field. (D.Mannifield)

Neatholme Fen - Single colour-ringed 3rd-winter Great Black-backed Gull with 'Yellow 4D8B' on its left leg. Also here 2 Snipe, 1 Redshank and 1 Little Egret. Wildgoose Farm - Singing Chiffchaff. Clayworth Common - Single male Wheatear (118) on ploughed field past Conservation Lake at 8:15am plus single RAVEN (DRe) flew over here towards Chainbridge Pit at 9:25am. Chainbridge Wood NR - Singing Blackcap. Wildgoose Farm - Single Tree Sparrow noted. Water Ski Pit - Single ringed Willow Tit noted singing in NE corner. Neatholme Fen - Single Egyptian Goose. The Willows (Clayworth Copse) - Single Willow Tit and Kingfisher noted here. Blaco - Three Egyptian Geese present here today. Bellmoor Lake - Two Red-crested Pochard, 2 Goosander and 5 Snipe. Tiln Fishery - c200 Sand Martin feeding between here and Bellmoor Lake. Old Silt Pools (Bellmoor) -Two Buzzard and 1 Chiffchaff singing. Bunker Wood - Three Chiffchaff singing. First records of Little Ringed Plover at Tiln North and Willow Warbler along Chainbridge Lane today.
Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Single Little Ringed Plover (116) was noted on eastern shore today with 2 Ringed Plover, 2 Curlew (singles flying west and east), 1 Snipe over, 1 Redshank and late evening 1 Little Egret, c100+ Wigeon and 4 Pied Wagtail. Clayworth Common - c150+ Mute Swan with 10 Whooper Swan and 1 Meadow Pipit over west. Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Single Curlew (one of the two seen) feeding on ploughed area at 12:45pm. Chainbridge Wood NR - Single Chiffchaff singing.  Chainbridge Lane (Horse Paddock) - A group of 8 Fieldfare with 2 Blackbird. Chainbridge Lane (Hawthorn Lane Junction) - Single Willow Warbler (117) singing for 5 minutes early evening, in area opposite Hawthorn Lane junction, also here 1 Chiffchaff singing. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Two Oystercatcher and 2 Red-legged Partridge. Chainbridge NR Scrape (West) - A total of 80 Shoveler, c100+ Wigeon, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Cormorant, 10 Teal, 2 Oystercatcher and 2 Redwing flew out of hedge. Windsurf Pool - 6+ Sand Martin feeding over tall willows, 4 Red-crested Pochard, 1 Little Grebe, 10+ Goldfinch, 2 Bullfinch, 2 Blackbird, 2 Dunnock, 1 Wren and 1 Grey Wagtail flew north over. Cross Lane Fishery - Single SLAVONIAN GREBE (GH) still present plus 2 Tufted Duck and 1 Grey Heron. Neatholme Fen - Two Little Egret, 1 Snipe, 95 Shoveler, 20 Teal, 3 Pochard, 3 Goldeneye, 5 Shelduck, 30 Tufted Duck, 3 Great Crested Grebe, c300+ Black-headed Gull roosting, 10 Great Black-backed Gulls, 10 Lesser Black-backed Gulls and 5 Herring Gulls. Water Ski Pit - Single Chiffchaff, 2 Robin, 1 Wren and 2 Buzzard. Neatholme Pit - c10 Goldeneye, 4 Pochard, c20 Tufted Duck, 1 Little Grebe, 1 Grey Heron and 4 Shelduck. Friday 21st March
Sand Martin numbers have increased today and a female Scaup was present on Neatholme Fen until 2pm at least.
Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Up to 3 Buzzard over. Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Single Redshank. Clayworth Common - Up to 10 Whooper Swan still present. The Willows (Clayworth Copse) - Single Kingfisher and Chiffchaff. Neatholme Fen - Single female Scaup (115) noted here from 10:00am until 13:50pm at least, also 30+ Sand Martin high over, 2 Little Egret and 2 Snipe. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Single Little Egret and 14 Shelduck. Windsurf Pool - Up to 20 Sand Martin over. Cross Lane Fishery - Single winter plumaged SLAVONIAN GREBE (TT,VG,KW) reported again today and 1 Snipe. Linghurst Pool - A gathering of 30 Sand Martin here. Sandy Hills - Two Chiffchaff. Blaco - Three Egyptian Geese with 5 Red-crested Pochard, 1 Goosander and 1 Green Sandpiper. Blaco Fields - Single Curlew, 130 Fieldfare, 25 Meadow Pipit and 4 Buzzard. Mattersey Common - Single juvenile Marsh Harrier hunting near Priory ruins area then flew to Blaco, c100 Fieldfare, 2 Buzzard, 4 Yellowhammer, 3 Grey Partridge and 1 Red-legged Partridge. Broom Wood (Tiln) - A group of 12 Sand Martin feeding. Bellmoor Lake - Two Buzzard over. Parish Park - Single Tawny Owl heard calling during moth trapping session. Cross Lane Fishery - Single winter plumaged SLAVONIAN GREBE (MF) reported again at 13:30pm today. Neatholme Scrape - Four Sand Martin over here at 13:00pm. Neatholme Fen - Single Kestrel and 2 Buzzard over area just north of fen. Windsurf Pool - Three Red-crested Pochard. Chainbridge NR Scrape - Five Ruff, 2 Little Egret and 9 Shelduck. Chainbridge Pit - Two Goosander. Clayworth Common - Seven Whooper Swan. Walters Lane Pit - Up to 12 Shelduck. Bellmoor - Single RED KITE (DRe) was noted moving south west over Sheep Fields and Bellmoor area at 9:30am, then over the railway bridge along A638 then over the Botany Bay level crossing and viewed from Rural Learning Centre car park. Monday 17th March
The first Sand Martin for 2014 flew north along the river today and the Slavonian Grebe was back at Cross Lane Fishery having last visited the Windsurf Pool on 8th and no further sightings until today?
River Idle - Single Sand Martin (114) flew north along river today. Blaco - Two Short-eared Owls hunting fields here with 120 Fieldfare and 30+ Meadow Pipit nearby. Neatholme Scrape - Single immature Marsh Harrier noted here today. Neatholme Pit - Two Buzzard. Neatholme Fen - Five Little Egret and 19 Snipe. Cross Lane Fishery - Single winter plumaged SLAVONIAN GREBE (KR) back on here today. Chainbridge Wood NR - Singing Chiffchaff. Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Two Redshank. Clayworth Common - Single Pink-footed Goose, 33 Golden Plover and 10 Whooper Swan. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Single Curlew, 5 Ringed Plover, 1 Redshank and 2 Oystercatcher. Chainbridge NR Scrape - Five Ruff again and 1 Sparrowhawk. Cross Lane Marsh - Two Buzzard. Windsurf Pool - Single male Red-crested Pochard. Tiln Pits - Single Water Rail seen briefly and heard calling from reeds, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 4 Oystercatcher and 3 Chiffchaff. Up to 14 Chiffchaff recorded today - anyone heard or seen any more away from these sites?
Neatholme Scrape - Single Merlin flew over scrape towards Neatholme Lane plus 10 Whooper Swans resting. Clayworth Common - Seven Whooper Swans with Mute Swans. Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Two Oystercatcher, 3+ Meadow Pipit feeding in ploughed edge by riverbank and 4 Redshank dropped in here to feed at 12:30pm. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Single Redshank, 2 Buzzard and 1 Sparrowhawk, later seen to fly into reed bed to avoid crows. Chainbridge Wood NR - Singing Chiffchaff alongside river plus 4 Fieldfare in tree tops and Treecreeper. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Two Grey Heron, 7 Shelduck, 1 Snipe and 2 Great Crested Grebe. Chainbridge NR Scrape (West) - Five Ruff, 1 Snipe and 2 Buzzard over. Chainbridge Pit - Pair of Bullfinch feeding plus male Reed Bunting singing along dyke next to Chainbridge Lane. Walters Lane - Two Kingfisher along dyke by farm and Sheep Fields. Chainbridge Lane (Boat Inn AC) Fishery - Singing Chiffchaff. Bellmoor Lake - A peak of 12 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 5 Great Black-backed Gulls, c380-400 Black-headed Gulls in full 'nesting mode', 7 Common Gull, 90 Tufted Duck, 6 Goosander, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Teal, 4 Shelduck, 2 Oystercatcher, 3+ Chiffchaff in north western corner, 4 Reed Buntings, 1 female Kestrel near nesting box plus singing Goldcrest noted for at least an hour. Bellmoor Ponds - Single Chiffchaff and 2 Goldcrest. Bunker Wood - Four Chiffchaff, 5 Lesser Redpoll and 1 Siskin. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Single Green Sandpiper and 5 Ruff still. Chainbridge NR Scrape (West) - Two Oystercatcher. Chainbridge Wood NR - Singing Chiffchaff and 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker. River Idle (Chainbridge) - Single Kingfisher noted. Chainbridge Pit - Single Sparrowhawk. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Single Curlew flew in at 15:00pm, 2 Peregrine on distant pylon, 2 Little Egret, 4 Oystercatcher and 2 Buzzard. Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Immature male Marsh Harrier flew south along eastern edge plus 2 Pied Wagtail feeding on freshly ploughed area around scrape. Chainbridge Wood NR - Single Chiffchaff singing plus 1 Sparrowhawk over. Chainbridge NR Scrape (West) - The 5 Ruff still present plus 7 Oystercatcher and 1 Grey Heron. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Single Little Egret plus 3 Egyptian Geese. Neatholme Scrape - Single Curlew flew over heading North plus 8 Goldeneye displaying. Blaco - Single Jack Snipe and 1 Snipe noted in a wet meadow, also 2 Oystercatcher and up to 4 Buzzard. Neatholme Fen - Three Little Egret and 2 Snipe. Neatholme Pit - Two Oystercatcher and 1 Tawny Owl in usual area. Neatholme Scrape - Three Whooper Swan and 2 Oystercatcher. Clayworth Common - Up to 36 Whooper Swan feeding with Mute Swan herds. Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Two Redshank and 2 Oystercatcher. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Single Curlew flushed by workmen planting hedges! Also here, 2 Oystercatchers and 35 Meadow Pipits in grassland. Hayton Common - Two Buzzard. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Single BITTERN (KW,TT) noted on edge of reeds for about ten minutes, 1 Little Egret, 5 Grey Heron, 4 Snipe and 2 Oystercatcher. Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Single female Marsh Harrier flew over here then heading towards Hayton, 4 Egyptian Geese on lake with 1 Redshank. River Idle (Chainbridge) -Two kingfishers flying together. Clayworth Common - Up to 15 Whooper Swan and 3 Buzzard. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Five Ruff. Chainbridge NR Scrape (West) - Five Ruff, 1 Redshank and 1 Buzzard over. Chainbridge Pit - Single Chiffchaff heard singing from east side of pit, 3 Grey Heron, 6 Goldeneye, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Goosander, 3 Fieldfare and 5 Reed Buntings on east side. Walters Lane Pit - Single Little Egret over. Neatholme Fen - Single Curlew at 12:30pm, 1 Little Egret and 3 Grey Partridge. Neatholme Pit - Single Little Egret, 18 Goldeneye (only 4 males) and 1 Tawny Owl in usual area. Tiln Pits - Two Water Rails calling from reedbed at 9:00am, 2 Kingfishers over pits and along river, 1 Sparrowhawk and 1 Mistle Thrush. Tiln Fishery - Three Great Crested Grebe, 30 Wigeon, 18 Pochard and 2 Skylark. Bunker Wood - Four Bullfinch, 4 Goldcrest and 1 Song Thrush. Bellmoor Lake - Single RAVEN (MFi) circling area east of main lake at 7:30am, 4 Goosander, 86 Tufted Duck, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 4 Teal, 6 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 2 Herring Gull, 400 Black-headed Gulls, 10 Common Gull, 14 Great Black-backed Gull, 3 Shelduck, 1 Green Woodpecker and 1 Reed Bunting singing in SE corner. Hallcroft Sewage Works - The wintering Lesser Whitethroat, a possible Siberian race blythi bird was still present and photographed again today. Windsurf Pool - Single SLAVONIAN GREBE (NB), 7 Red-crested Pochard and 4 Buzzard overhead. Chainbridge NR Scrape (West) - A total of 32 Whooper Swan roosting here. Chainbridge Lane (Charcon Works) - Twelve Meadow Pipit and 2 Pied Wagtails. Lound Village - Five Mistle Thrush and 5 Lesser Redpoll. Lound (Horse Paddocks) - A total of 24 Yellowhammer in trees. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Single Goosander, 10 Red-crested Pochard, 5 Ruff, 3 Oystercatcher, 1 Curlew (same as Tiln bird), 7 Snipe, 5 Shelduck, 1 Buzzard and 2 Grey Heron. Sheep Fields (Low Level) - Single Redshank and Oystercatcher, 1 male Sparrowhawk and 1 Buzzard. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Single Ringed Plover, 1 Peregrine on deck with 1 Curlew close by and 2 Oystercatcher. Clayworth Common - A total 36 Whooper Swans, 60 Golden Plover plus Green Sandpiper overhead with Lapwings. Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Single male Merlin hunting here briefly in the afternoon, 15 Meadow Pipit feeding and 2 Oystercatcher. The Willows (Clayworth Copse) - Two Buzzard and 1 Kingfisher again. Neatholme Pit - Single Tawny Owl in usual spot plus singing Chiffchaff along lane side. Neatholme Fen - Two Oystercatcher, 1 Little Egret and 90 Fieldfare. Neatholme Scrape - Four Oystercatcher, 1 Little Egret and 9 Shelduck. Cross Lane Fishery - Single winter plumaged SLAVONIAN GREBE (MWa,PCa,VG,TT.KW) still here today. Walters Lane Pit - Single RED KITE (DE) noted today flying towards Lound village. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Single BITTERN (MWa,IC) flew across scrape to NW corner at 10:30am, 5 Ruff still, 7 Red-crested Pochard, 1 Curlew calling overhead, 1 Snipe and 4 Oystercatcher. Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Two Oystercatcher. Clayworth Common - Three Buzzard over and 28 Whooper Swans. Chainbridge Pit - Five Goosander. Cross Lane Fishery - Single winter plumaged SLAVONIAN GREBE (BS) still here today. Cross Lane - Two Green Woodpecker. The Willows (Clayworth Copse) - Single Kingfisher, Green Sandpiper and Fieldfare noted here. Neatholme Scrape - Eight Red-crested Pochard, 1 Snipe and 1 Little Egret. Wednesday 5th March

Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Two Oystercatcher and 1 Red-legged Partridge. Whittaker's Fishery (Private) - Seven Egyptian Geese, 2 male Red-crested Pochard, 2 Ringed Plover and 2 Grey Partridge. Clayworth Common - The Whooper Swan flock has now increased again to 36 birds with 3 Stock Dove also noted. Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Two Oystercatcher feeding on the edges. Chainbridge Pit - 8 Goosander. Chainbridge NR Scrape (West) - Five Ruff, 1 Redshank, 2 Oystercatcher and 1 Willow Tit heard calling in western hedgerow alongside Hawthorn Lane. Walters Lane Pit - Single Redshank. Bittern Pools - Single Tawny Owl heard calling from ivy covered tree. Cross Lane Fishery - Single winter plumaged SLAVONIAN GREBE (PCa) still here today. Neatholme Fen - Two Oystercatcher. Neatholme Pit - Single Tawny Owl in usual spot with 1 Little Egret on pit. Neatholme Scrape - Single male Pintail and 2 Oystercatcher. Lound (Horse Paddocks) - 2 Mistle Thrush. Parish Park - Three Jay and 2 Little Grebe. Sheep Fields (Low Level) - Two presumed 'feral' Pink-footed Geese with 120 Greylag and 16 Canada Geese, 2 Oystercatcher, 20 Redwing and 80 Fieldfare. Tiln Pits - Single Water Rail heard calling at 10:45am, 2 Great Crested Grebe and 2 Little Grebe. Tiln Fishery - A total of 7 Oystercatcher, 3 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Grey Heron and 40 Wigeon. Bunker Wood - Two Buzzard, 2 Siskin, 2 Meadow Pipit and 1 Skylark. Bellmoor Lake - Three Shelduck, 42 Lapwing, 1 Green Woodpecker, 6 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 3 Oystercatcher, 6 Teal, 83 Tufted Duck,15 Goosander, 2 Kingfisher and 1 Reed Bunting. Tuesday 4th March

The wintering Lesser Whitethroat now being claimed as a possible Siberian blythi race individual. See info and link below and on home page.

Hallcroft Sewage Works - The wintering Lesser Whitethroat was still present and photographed today, apparently it is thought now by some to be of the 'Siberian' race Blythi and first reported as such on Birdguides on Monday 3rd March. See the link to the birder & photographers blog here where there are a series of images, some also posted on Birdguides. Also present today was the FIRECREST (CD) and 1 Chiffchaff. Parish Park - Single Jay. Neatholme Fen - Single Little Egret and Oystercatcher plus interestingly two Long-tailed Tit were observed nest building! Water Ski Pit - Two Goldcrest, 2 Jay and 4 Bullfinch. Mattersey Common - Two Buzzard. Neatholme Scrape - Single Curlew flew south calling at 12:45pm, 2 Oystercatcher and 1 Willow Tit in NW corner. The Willows (Clayworth Copse) - Single Green Sandpiper in dyke at rear of copse plus 3 Buzzard in area. Clayworth Common - Single male Merlin sat in tree plus 27 Whooper Swans. Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Despite this area recently being ploughed, a single Curlew was still seen feeding here before it flew towards Neatholme Scrape at 13:30pm. Monday 3rd March

Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Single RED KITE (DM) noted at 13:00pm as it flew over here and onto Hayton common, circled the common and then caught thermals for 10 minutes, then went really high before heading off in a south easterly direction. Also here, single Peregrine flew in and landed on the scrape then flew to regular pylon at 13:45pm, 6 Goldeneye including 2 males both displaying, 4 Goosander flew over, 5 Fieldfare south, 4 Oystercatcher, 2 Pink-footed Geese with Greylag's and up to 3 Buzzards over. Clayworth Common - c150 Golden Plover flew east plus 1 Buzzard. The Willows (Clayworth Copse) - Single Kingfisher and single Chiffchaff flew from here over river towards Neatholme Scrape. Neatholme Scrape - Two Oystercatcher. Wildgoose Farm - Two Red-legged Partridge. Blaco - Two Oystercatcher and 2 Red-legged Partridge on fields. (D.Mannifield, M.Warne, P.Cadman, I.Hunt)

Sunday 2nd March

Cross Lane Fishery - Single winter plumaged SLAVONIAN GREBE (PCa,IH) still here today. Clayworth Common - A total of 44 Whooper Swans noted today, numbers varying daily still. River Idle (Cross Lane Marsh) - Single Chiffchaff on river bank. Neatholme Fen - Two Little Egret noted feeding on scrape. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Two Oystercatcher. (P.Cadman, I.Hunt)

Saturday 1st March

Hallcroft Fishery - Single FIRECREST (via NBW) still present around first fishing pond next to entrance, also here a single Chiffchaff and the Siberian Chiffchaff again. Clayworth Common - A total of 194 Mute Swans and 37 Whooper Swans noted on Clayworth Common, some of which moved onto Neatholme Scrape after being flushed by three horses being galloped across the common. The total site count of Mute Swan today was 218 birds. Also here, 1 Barn Owl, 1 Little Egret, c40 Golden Plover, c50 Lapwing, c100 Starlings, up to 4 Buzzard and many singing Skylarks. Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Two Oystercatcher feeding on recently ploughed grassland bordering this site plus 2 Meadow Pipit flew in. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Two Ringed Plover and 1 Dunlin early morning plus 4 Oystercatcher, 1 male Kestrel, c100 Wigeon and 2 Buzzard. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Single Curlew flew over calling mid afternoon, 5 Shelduck, 1 Snipe, c20 Teal, 2 Grey Heron, 1 Goosander and 1 Little Egret. Cross Lane Fishery - Single winter plumaged SLAVONIAN GREBE still here today. Bellmoor Lake - Two Buzzard, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 5 Goosander and c5 Lesser Black-backed Gulls in amongst an increasing population of Black-headed Gulls.
