Friday 30th November

Parish Park - Flock of 140 Siskin, 60 Redpoll and 20 Goldfinch. Linghurst Wood - Fifty Siskin. Wildgoose Farm - Ten Reed Bunting, 10 Goldfinch, 40 Chaffinch, 15 Greenfinch and 10 Tree Sparrows in Sunflowers. Neatholme Scrape - Single male Pintail and 685 Greylag Geese. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Fifty Linnets. Hayton Common - Up to 12 Whooper Swans including 2 juveniles. Chainbridge Scrape - Single SHORT-EARED OWL (TT,VG) flew south at 14:00pm. Thursday 29th November

Hayton Common - Up to 12 Whooper Swans still in field here and up to 12 Skylarks flew over toward Conservation Lake. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Up to 5 SHORT-EARED OWLS (DM) still present. Chainbridge Pit - Two SHORT-EARED OWLS (DM) seen over Willow area. Tonight's Starling roost was once again very poor with only about 100 birds going straight down to roost. (D.Mannifield)

Wednesday 28th November

Neatholme Scrape - Single female/immature COMMON SCOTER (IC) present at 10.20am. Chainbridge Scrape - Single WAXWING (IC) heard calling over scrape. Clayworth/Hayton Common - Parties of 17 and 29 Whooper Swans and c150 Pink-footed Geese were noted here and over Wildgoose Farm area on today. Chainbridge Lane - Single Jay, 2 Bullfinch and 1 Green Woodpecker. Bellmoor Lake/Bunker Wood - Single Treecreeper, 1 Coal Tit, c80 strong mixed flock of Redpoll, Goldfinch and Siskin near Bunker Wood, 29 Red-crested Pochard, 1 Jay and 1 Kingfisher on river opposite Bunker Wood. Tuesday 27th November

Bellmoor Lake/Bunker Wood - A total of 8 Goldcrest seen in two groups the largest being 6 birds, 1 Coal Tit, a total of 3 Treecreeper seen in various locations, 1 Buzzard, a mixed flock of approximately c80 birds, mainly Redpoll but also a few Siskin and Goldfinch at Bunker Wood, 4 Bullfinch, 1 Sparrowhawk, 1 Kestrel, 29 Red-crested Pochard and 12 Snipe on main Island. Chainbridge Scrape - Two Little Egret. Chainbridge Pit - Single SHORT-EARED OWL (DHo) flushed 4 Snipe. (D.Housman)

Monday 26th November

Windsurf Pool (Field) - Single Little Egret flying towards Walters Pit. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - A pair of Bullfinch noted in hedgerow. Chainbridge Pit - Two Reed Bunting and 4 Redpoll. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Single Little Egret, 2 Little Grebe, 1 Fieldfare, 1 Redwing and 1 Green Woodpecker. Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Single Redshank calling heading south. Friday 23rd November

Chainbridge NR Scrape - Single male Pintail, 2 Ruff, 1 Green Woodpecker over and Starling roost was poor tonight as they split into two groups over N end of scrape and over Windsurf Pool before roosting quickly as it started to rain. Wednesday 21st November

Bellmoor Lake - Up to 24 Red-crested Pochard, 5 Goosander, 3 Goldcrest, 1 Coal Tit and 2 Kingfisher. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Four SHORT-EARED OWLS (DHo), 4 Kestrel and 1 Sparrowhawk. Unusually late wader passage!

Sunday 18th November

Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Up to 5 SHORT-EARED OWLS (DM,SD et al) plus 1 Buzzard and 1 male Goosander over. Clayworth Common - Single male MERLIN (IC) on common late morning, 45 Pink-footed Geese flew East, 1 male PEREGRINE on deck S of Cross Lane, c150 Golden Plover and 25 Grey Partridge. Bellmoor Lake - Single JACK SNIPE (PCo) again on edges of main island from 11.15am with 2 JACK SNIPE (AN) noted here from 2:00-3:00pm plus c30 Snipe, 20 Red-crested Pochard, 1 Shelduck and 4 Goosander. Chainbridge NR Scrape (West) - A group of 10 Whooper Swans were present at 9:15am this morning and were still present at 15:30pm, 2 Ruff still present, 2 Goldeneye, a juvenile MARSH HARRIER (IC) late afternoon and tonight's Starling roost contained c5,000 birds plus up to 3 Sparowhawks hunting the flock. Saturday 17th November

A 'pale' looking Chiffchaff was seen at Bellmoor again today. Not specifically identified yet but possibly a 'abietinus or tristis' type? Call also described as different from Common Chiffchaff? 

Bellmoor Lake - Up to 2 JACK SNIPE (SD,DM,DC,SC et al) were noted feeding on main island today viewable from learning centre windows including one bird photographed below. Also here, 1 'pale' looking Chiffchaff (DHo) still on main track c100m north from lake, c25 Snipe, 1 male Goosander, 17 Red-crested Pochard, 30 Siskin, 1 Buzzard, 6 Teal, 1 male Sparrowhawk and 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Up to 5 SHORT-EARED OWLS (SD) noted today plus 150 Golden Plover, 10 Red-legged Partridge, 2 Grey Partridge, 2 Kestrel and 1 Sparrowhawk. Chainbridge NR Scrape (Area) - Two Ruff still present plus, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Sparrowhawk and 2,500 Starlings in tonights roost. Chainbridge Pit - Single Redpoll again in tree in NE corner. Friday 16th November

Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Single male STONECHAT (BH) still present. Lound Village - Single NUTHATCH (PJF) still visiting feeders in garden by crossroads. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Up to 5 SHORT-EARED OWLS (DM et al) present this afternoon, 130 Golden Plover, 1 Grey Heron and 12 Fieldfare over. Chainbridge Pit - Single Redpoll in NE corner. Chainbridge Lane - A pair of Bullfinch near Walters Lane junction. Bellmoor Lake - Single Water Rail noted plus 2 Goosander. Chainbridge NR Scrape (Area) - The Starling roost contained c6,400 birds this evening from photo's taken by Vic Giles. Bellmoor (Bunker Wood) - A flock of c130 Siskin, 10 Redpoll, 20 Goldfinch and 1 Kingfisher along river here. Tiln Pits - Single Water Rail. Tiln (Poplar plantation) - A flock of 150 Fieldfare. Thursday 15th November

An obvious heavy W/NW movement of Pink-footed Geese this morning, 20+ Waxwings were again in the Bellmoor area this morning, the male Stonechat was still around and Short-eared Owls continue to hunt in the Tiln North area from mid afternoon and finally the Starling roost flock has incresed in size. 

Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Up to 4 SHORT-EARED OWLS (DM,PCa et al) present this evening, also 10 Grey Partridge, 2 Red-legged Partridge and 1 Sprarrowhawk. Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Single male STONECHAT (DM,PCa,IH) still present in scrub viewable from Chainbridge bridge, also 70 Golden Plover, 2 SHORT-EARED OWL over spoil heaps and 9 Grey Partrige. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Single Ruff still present and the Starling roost numbered circa 5,000 birds this evening making some really good patterns in the sky especially when two Sparrowhawks once again made attacks on the flock. Bellmoor Lake (Area) - At least 1,000 (possibly more) Pink-footed Geese moved either W or NW over this area between 10:45am and 11:45am today, Also here, 20+ WAXWINGS were reported by visiting birders flying SE over the Lake at 11:30am, 4 Snipe, 9 Goosander and up to 25 Red-crested Pochard. Bellmoor (Rural Learning Centre) - Single Goldcrest with Long-tailed Tits. Wednesday 14th November

Chainbridge Bridge - A flock of c30 WAXWINGS (DHo,TN) flew south along river towards tiln late morning. Mattersey Priory - A visit this afternoon recorded four SHORT-EARED OWLS (PCo) including 3 flying high over Blaco at 15:40pm plus one hunting and perching up in adjacent field to the Priory from 15:50pm. Also here 2 Buzzard and 20 Grey Partridge. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Up to 5 SHORT-EARED OWLS (DM) were noted here this afternoon/evening with at least 2 Sparrowhawks, 1 Kestrel and 1 Buzzard. Chainbridge NR Scrape (Area) - Tonight's Starling roost scored an impressive circa 4,000 birds despite two hunting Sparrowhawks plus a single Ruff was on the scrape. Sutton-cum-Lound - Single NUTHATCH (DM) in trees by church. Bellmoor Lake (Rural Learning Centre) - A single Barn Owl was seen sat on a post in darkness at 19:30pm by a late night birding cyclist. Tuesday 13th November

Clayworth Common - Up to four SHORT-EARED OWLS (PCo,DM,DHu et al) were present this evening but a more unusual sighting was of a hunting Barn Owl that was attacked and killed by a Buzzard as onlookers watched in horror. The owls corpse has now been collected and passed to NWT. Neatholme Scrape - Single male STONECHAT (IC) relocated at 10:00am in scrub on eastern edge of scrape viewable from riverside track at bend in river next to scrape. Bellmoor Lake (Area) - Two Goldcrest, 1 Coal Tit, 2 Greenfinch, 1 male Bullfinch, a mixed flock of at least 40 birds mainly Redpoll with some Siskins, 1 'pale' looking Chiffchaff 'calling' c100m from Bellmoor Lake, 1 female Goosander, several Red-crested Pochard and a female Sparrowhawk. Monday 12th November

Tiln North (Restotation Area) - Single female MERLIN (PCa) sat on footpath sign at 11:00am and up to 4 SHORT-EARED OWLS (DHo) noted this afternoon plus 1 Barn Owl, 3 Kestrel and 1 Sparrowhawk. Clayworth Common (Conservation Lake) - Single male STONECHAT (PCa) still present at 11:00am perched on vegetation and c150 Golden Plover flew over. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - A very large Starling 'roost' numbering 'several thousand' birds was noted here this evening before they went to roost in reeds on both the Windsurf Pool and Walters Lane Pit. Sunday 11th November

Clayworth Common - Single STONECHAT (PCo) present at 10:00am in weedy area two fields East of Cross Lane along field edge but the bird disappeared & despite extensive searching could not be re-located here. During this time a tractor arrived and began to plough the nearest field to the bird! Also here, single PEREGRINE (MW,DM,PJF,RSt) flew towards Chainbridge Pit at 14:15pm, 1 Reed Bunting, 2 Buzzard and c200 Golden Plover. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Up to 7 SHORT-EARED OWLS (MW,DRo et al) present from mid-afternoon till dusk, also the male STONECHAT (MW,DM,PJF,RSt,AB,DRo et al) was relocated in scrub here at 13:30pm, 4 Grey Partridge and 46 Fieldfare flew north. Windsurf Pool - Twelve Gadwall and 77 Coot. Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - Two Ruff present at 13:00pm plus 1 Grey Heron, 38 Gadwall, 60 Coot, 18 Tufted Duck, 23 Shoveler, 18 Wigeon and 11 Pochard. Chainbridge NR Scrape (West) - Single Grey Heron. Water Ski Pit - c50 Coot. The Willows - c100 Fieldfare. Neatholme Pit - Two Buzzard soaring over. Neatholme Scrape - Four male Red-crested Pochard, 70 Gadwall, 137 Coot, 25 Tufted Duck, 29 Mute Swan, 10 Shoveler, 10 Wigeon, 4 Goldeneye and 18 Cormorant. Bellmoor Lake (Area) A group of 8 'flighty' WAXWINGS (ABe) were present but headed off northwards, 1 Chiffchaff in bushes by lakeside, 19 Red-crested Pochard, 3 Goosander, 2 Shelduck, 5 Siskin, up to 4 Snipe, 1 Bullfinch, 1 Reed Bunting, 1 Redwing, 1 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 1 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 1 Great Black-backed Gull and a few Redpolls. Sandy Hills - Single Green Woodpecker, 1 Redwing and 2 Siskins. Parish Park - Two Jays, 2 Bullfinch, 2 Green Woodpecker and mixed finch flock of c50 Siskin, c80 Goldfinch and c100 Redpoll. Neatholme Fen - Nine Red-legged Partridge, 15 Long-tailed Tit and 1 Goldcrest. Wildgoose Farm - Six Red-legged Partridge, 11 Greenfinch, 1 Green Woodpecker, 100 Fieldfare, 2 Siskin, 1 Pied Wagtail and 1 Jay. Blaco - Three Reed Buntings, 4 Skylark and 1 Pied Wagtail. Wednesday 7th November

Waxwings have returned locally today with 6-8 birds noted in the Bellmoor area. A further increase in Short-eared Owls over the site today, mirroring a similar influx that happened last autumn/winter. 

Bellmoor (Area) - Two reports of WAXWINGS (IB,DHo) today from this area. Six birds were seen by Ian Baxter by Bellmoor Lake and a further two birds were noted by Daz Housman flying low north over Bellmoor heading towards Sutton-cum-Lound village at 12.40pm. Bellmoor Lake - The six WAXWINGS (IB) mentioned above, 4 Goldcrest, 1 Bullfinch calling, 1 Coal Tit, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Whooper Swan and several Red-crested Pochard. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Up to 8 SHORT-EARED OWLS (DH), two separate groups of four birds, were reported over here this afternoon, also 2 Buzzard and 2 Kestrel. (D.Housman,I.Baxter,J.Simpson)

Neatholme Scrape - A pair of RAVEN (MS et al) were noted flying over here heading west during a NWT guided walk today. Also here, 1 male Pintail, c300 Greylag Geese, 6 Goldeneye and 1 Buzzard. Neatholme Pit - Single Kingfisher. Neatholme Fen - Two Redpoll. Neatholme Lane - Three Snipe over and 1 Bullfinch. Cross Lane - c100 Redwing and c150 Fieldfare. Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Four SHORT-EARED OWLS (DM) noted in area from 3:30pm until 4:15pm and 1 Sparrowhawk was also hunting in this area. Chainbridge Lane - Four Meadow Pipits over. Bellmoor Lake - Twenty Red-crested Pochard and 1 Grey Wagtail flying south. Bellmoor Ponds - Single Kingfisher flew towards river and c300 mixed finches, mainly Siskin and Redpolls. Lound Village - Single NUTHATCH (MW,PCa) in garden near crossroads plus 6 Redwing and 3 Coal Tit nearby. Clayworth Common - c150 Fieldfare and 1 Sparrowhawk noted. Neatholme Fen - Single Little Egret. Linghurst Wood - Single Goldcrest. Parish Park - Up to 6 Red-crested Pochard, c20 Redpoll and 1 Bullfinch calling. Thursday 1st November

Tiln North (Restoration Area) - Three SHORT-EARED OWLS (DM) noted here mid afternoon being joined by a fourth bird late afternoon, one bird noted interacting with a Carrion Crows by flying very high and apparently 'dog fighting' with the crow as they decended. Also here 150+ Fieldfare and 50+ Redwings. Bellmoor Lake - Two Snipe, 65 Lapwing, 6 Red-crested Pochard, 2 Redpoll and c60 Siskin. Neatholme Fen - Single Little Egret.
