Monday 25th November
A single Bearded Tit was sighted today - a new species for the recording area! Also a total of 12 Egyptian Geese were noted from two areas.
Chainbridge NR Scrape (East) - A single BEARDED TIT (DRe) (183) was observed heading west high over the viewpoint at 9:15am. The bird was initially heard calling once then it called a further two times before it was finally picked up with binoculars only very high over the screen. Unfortunately it was lost from view before it reached as far as Hawthorn Lane. The height of the observation meant that nothing other than the birds small size (and calls) were the only descriptive points taken during the short observation period. The single observer David Read is 100% sure of the ID based on the birds calls alone being very familiar with the flight calls of both UK and European sighted Bearded Tits. Nottinghamshire Bird Report 2010 states that Bearded Tit is "A scarce and irregular visitor. Most frequently recorded in October and November" so it ties in with normal movements within the county. It would be useful to look in all local reedbeds in the next few days as this bird may have come down. This is the first ever record of Bearded Tit for the LBC recording area and the Idle Valley NR. Also here today, 4 Little Egret, 4 Snipe, 1 Ruff, 1 Dunlin, 5 Shelduck, 40 Fieldfare and 30 Redwing. Clayworth Common - A total of 9 Egyptian Geese (Including 5 juveniles) were recorded in the fields next to bend in the River Idle at 10:00am until at least 11:30am this morning.
