Saturday 29th September

Chainbridge Wood NR - A single YELLOW-BROWED WARBLER (DHo) was found by Darren Housman along the main footpath in the wood at 10.30am today. Initially put out as a 'probable' it was actually confirmed when other locals joined Darren sometime before midday and the four observers had very close and prolonged views as it fed in willow and silver birch trees either along the same area of footpath as the initial observations or later along the eastern edge of the wood by the car park and winter feeding station area. It then went missing at approx 12.30pm for over an hour (though occasionally heard calling) but was then seen well (all but briefly) at 13.25pm feeding within a mixed tit flock, chiffchaffs and a Blackcap in willows just inside the gate entrance in the NE corner of the wood. After a gap of approx 3 hours it was again relocated in the NE corner of wood near entrance gate by Stuart Davenport who later saw it again in two areas along the riverside track, firstly by the feeding station then in the open area with two dead silver birch stumps. This bird will constitute the second record for the LBC recording area if accepted by the county rarity committee and comes on the exact same date as the first record at Bellmoor on 29th September 2004.
